I'm so happy to release these pieces into the wild. The Black Ground EP is comprised of 2 pieces from the body of work that created Hero Brother and an orchestral version of "Breathing Black Ground". "Requiem For Douglas" began as a piece I wrote in collaboration with video artist Jason Last called Scalpel/Stradivarius. When my uncle passed away, the piece evolved into something for him.  "Muscle Til Death" is the last piece I wrote before recording Hero Brother. It is very much a part of that world, but ultimately stands alone. The orchestral version of "Breathing Black Ground" came as an invitation from Owen Pallett to join an orchestral session in Prague.  It was really exciting to shift the piece into the world of string orchestra, and such a treat to collaborate with Owen. Please enjoy! S.N.

PRAISE FOR HERO BROTHER

"Hero Brother stands very much alone as an artistic statement, calmly ravishing and emotionally centered." - The New York Times

"A collection of mysteriously dark and echoing pieces that are, in every sense of the word, riveting."  - Alto Riot (2013 Album Of The Year)

"A tremendously accomplished series of recordings." - Exclaim

"An intense and atmospheric debut." - Uncut

"Hero Brother takes a few listens to fully understand, but the effort is rewarding and captivating. Neufeld's talents are obvious in every track, and her songwriting abilities prove that a violin can be as addictive as the boldest tenor or shredded guitar solo." - Consequence of Sound

HERO BROTHER CD AND DELUXE VINYL
AVAILABLE AT CONSTELLATION

Jason Last accompanied me in both the Hero Brother recording sessions in Berlin, January 2013, and in Prague for the orchestral session, February 2013. He documented our experiences and made me laugh. I'm so touched by this piece he made. S.N.
